SYDNEY LIVING: 2018/19 SUMMER HIGHLIGHTS

Mar 25, 2019
Summer in Sydney
Sydney living, lately

Since returning from Colombia, I’ve written so many posts about all of the experiences that I had there. Lots to talk about! It’s easy to forget that summer in Australia is awesome too, so with the seasonal change, I thought I’d look back at a couple of my highlights. Other than the usual beach time and BBQs, here’s what I got up to..

KAYAKING TO CLEAN UP THE HARBOUR

There may be no greater passion for us Aussies than our oceans. Within my team at work, I hold the very unofficial title of “Chief CSR Officer”. Knowing this, a colleague forwarded me the link for Sydney by Kayak who organise regular clean-up tours on Sydney Harbour.

The chance to make a positive environmental impact with the iconic bridge and opera house as a backdrop sounded ideal! So, just as summer arrived in Sydney, our marketing team took to kayaks to help ensure our beautiful harbour stay clean.

Armed with gloves, sieves, and buckets the team paddled around Lavender Bay collecting micro-plastics and any other litter that we came across. It wasn’t long before our buckets were overflowing with rubbish. Although it was unbelievably sad to see the amount of crap that ends up in our waterways, I felt uplifted to be making a small impact.

Not only was this a great activity to give back to our environment, but it was a fun team bonding experience. Kayaking together allowed us to take a break from our computer screens for some quality time in the fresh air.

FAMILY WEEKEND IN WENTWORTH FALLS

Just before Christmas my sister booked us a weekend in the Blue Mountains. We were 4 adults, plus my 2 cute little nieces. The house was in the Wentworth Falls region of Blue Mountains National Park, which is about a 2-hour drive west of Sydney. We spent the weekend making delicious food, playing ‘Articulate’ and bushwalking – it was such a lovely weekend escape.

On Saturday we hiked the Wentworth Falls track. Part of the trail started right near our house which was super convenient!

On Sunday we drove to Echo Point, cos no trip to the Blue Mountains is complete without a visit to the ‘Three Sisters’.

We parked near the Blue Mountains Chocolate Company (a 10-minute walk from Echo Point). After we’d taken in the spectacular view, we headed back to the cars, stopping for coffee and hand made chocolates on the way.

Although temperatures are dropping across Australia right now, we’ll still have plenty of warm sunny days to enjoy 🙂 If you’re planning a trip to Sydney, check out my favourite free things to do.
